Simply add the soil into the special planting basket, add the plant, cover with gravel and your Water Lily is ready to add to your pond. Bare root perennials are already full-sized plants, allowing you to enjoy good growth and crop in the first year. No need to wait as long to see your favourite blooms which will return year after year. Kit includes a pink water lily (Nymphaea carnea), planting basket, top quality aquatic soil and decorative gravel. Top Tips- Water lilies flourish in still water, so do not plant them near a pond pump or fountain. As these Lilies are dry-packed, young plants, they need starting off gently. Initially, place the filled baskets on a shallow shelf of the pond, where only the top of the plant is at the water line, and allow it to establish.- Alternatively, set them up submerged in a decorative pot or planter on your decking or patio to start, then, when established, move them into the pond.Care Guide- The mesh container is specially designed to allow water to circulate through the compost, providing the plants with both oxygen and nutrients.- To plant up, add 1/3 of the soil to the basket and place the lily on top, spreading its roots. Add the rest of the soil and the gravel on top.- After potting and once established, all you need to do is to place the pot into a pond. No prizes for guessing where they get their name from - their classic spring flowers zing with intense colour. Usually red, this is the first widely available pink, and what a neon-pink it is too! Each flower is made up of thousands of thin stamens, each pollen rich, so become a mecca for bees and butterflies early in the season. Flowering in spring, it is great to attract early season pollinators to fruit - and sometimes has a mini flush of flowers again in autumn. Grow in a pot in a warm and sunny spot, in a well-drained mix. Although hardy to -5C or so, we would advise some winter protection, as early leaves and growth can be damaged.Top Tips- Callistemon will flower best when grown in full sun in moist but well drained soil in a sheltered position away from cold winds.- Outdoors, Callistemon (Bottlebrush) look great in mixed borders especially if combined with other drought tolerant plants such as salvias and lavenders.Care GuidePlanting Advice for Callistemon Bottlebrush:- Generally unfussy as to soil, poor soil benefits from the addition of plenty of organic matter.- Once established plants don't need special attention and are generally problem-free.- Pot-grown trees can be planted at any time of the year as long as the soil is not waterlogged or frozen.- Dig a square planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting and mix some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill once the shrub is in place.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove your Callistemon from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.- Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your tree in the hole at the same level at the pot, refill, firm, and water well.- Mulch around the base of the plant.- Plants can also be grown in a pot using a good quality soil-based compost.Aftercare Advice for your Bottlebrush:- Although drought-tolerant, Callistemon requires regular watering.- Feed with a general-purpose liquid feed in the growing season and top dress in the spring.- Callistemon can get out of hand under glass so restrictive pruning may be necessary to keep their shape.- Hardy in the UK down to -4°C! In very exposed sites, a fleece cover and mulch will see them safely through the winter. Recently introduced to UK gardens, this daphne is a superb alternative to the popular 'Eternal Fragrance' and will provide you with flowers for months on end often right up to autumn. 'Pink Fragrance's' perfumed blooms are produced in abundance from April until October every year and being a compact and slow-growing variety' it's perfect for smaller gardens or for growing in a container on your decking or patio. One of the remarkable things about this beautiful semi-evergreen is that rather unusually for a daphne, it produces flowers on new growth, meaning the lovely pink blooms just keep on coming right through the summer. Grow it in a pot and place on the patio or near a garden path so you can fully enjoy the delightful scent. Height and spread 90 cm (3ft). Supplied approx. 20 cm tall in a 9cm pot.Top Tips- Grown for their beautiful and intensely fragrant blooms, daphnes are best planted near paths and doorways or at the front of borders where it is easy to enjoy their delicious fragrance when in flower.Care Guide- Plants will thrive in a sunny or part-shaded location in fertile, well-drained soil. They don't like dry roots, so water regularly and deeply.- Daphne will establish best if planted in the spring when the soil is warm March/April and Sept/Oct.- Dig a hole twice the width of the rootball. Sprinkle in a handful of blood, fish and bone and work into the ground.- If your soil is heavy, add plenty of well-rotted compost to the area and dig it in well. Horticultural sand/grit added to the mix is also beneficial.- Place the plant into the hole, backfilling so that it is at the same depth as was in the pot.
