Not many. But this native of Australia has more going for it than just its 'stroke me' qualities. The tiny leaves that cover its arching branches release a delicious lemony scent when brushed, and its arching branches provide all year round interest. Wherever you plant it its perfect as specimen in the lawn, grown against a wall or fence, or planted in large pots. A real sun lover, give it the brightest spot possible. You need to water a bottlebrush for its first season, but when established plants are extremely drought tolerant. Despite heralding from warmer climes this plant is incredibly tough and will easily cope with temperatures down to -50C. Protect it in harder winters by covering with fleece or grow in pots so it can be moved indoors (a shed, front porch, garage or conservatory would be ideal).Top Tips- Callistemon will flower best when grown in full sun in moist but well drained soil in a sheltered position away from cold winds.- Outdoors, Callistemon (Bottlebrush) look great in mixed borders especially if combined with other drought tolerant plants such as salvias and lavenders.Care GuidePlanting Advice for Callistemon Bottlebrush:- Generally unfussy as to soil, poor soil benefits from the addition of plenty of organic matter.- Once established plants don't need special attention and are generally problem-free.- Pot-grown trees can be planted at any time of the year as long as the soil is not waterlogged or frozen.- Dig a square planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting and mix some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill once the shrub is in place.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove your Callistemon from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.- Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your tree in the hole at the same level at the pot, refill, firm, and water well.- Mulch around the base of the plant.- Plants can also be grown in a pot using a good quality soil-based compost.Aftercare Advice for your Bottlebrush:- Although drought-tolerant, Callistemon requires regular watering.- Feed with a general-purpose liquid feed in the growing season and top dress in the spring.- Callistemon can get out of hand under glass so restrictive pruning may be necessary to keep their shape.- Hardy in the UK down to -4°C! In very exposed sites, a fleece cover and mulch will see them safely through the winter. Potted plants can be moved to a cool conservatory or greenhouse.Pruning Advice for Callistemon:- Lightly prune after flowering to keep them under control, cutting just behind the spent bloom.- Callistemons in general don't like hard-pruning, so just remove spent flowerheads immediately after flowering, or trim new growth to maintain shape.Planting Time:All yearFlowering Time:June - JulyAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. The Swiss Cheese Plant, Monstera Deliciosa, is an ever popular and easy to grow houseplant that has inspired generations of indoor gardeners. With glossy, rich green leaves with irregular holes, the plants will trail gently over their pot if left untrained or can be treated as a climber and tied to a support. The glossy, tropical leaves are what makes this plant a star, easily adding a lush, exotic feel to any room. It's fascinating to watch the young leaves as they emerge tightly furled, growing longer each day before opening fully. Young leaves are solid, but as the plant matures they begin to develop the characteristic holes. Naturally a lazy climber, your plant will enjoy the support of a moss pole (not supplied) where you can push its aerial roots into the moss as they develop, helping to support it as it grows. A native of tropical rainforests, Monstera is a houseplant that is easy to keep happy. We recommend that you place it in bright but not direct sunlight indoors and mist the leaves regularly to provide humidity. They love a leaf-wipe now and again to remove dust and restore that glossy sheen. Supplied as an established plant in a 14cm pot. As with all houseplants, keep away from children and pets and take care when handling. Please note that the decorative pot is not included.Care GuideBest grown in indirect sunlight in an average room temperature - avoid large temperature fluctuations. Water regularly and allow the soil to dry a bit between watering. Feed once a month with a general-purpose liquid houseplant feed. Mist leaves to maintain humidity. Clean leaves regularly with a damp cloth. Do not place in direct sunlight, as this will scorch and yellow the leaves. Keep out of darker areas as growth will be spindly and new leaves will lose their holes and cuts. The leaves of Monstera deliciosa are toxic so keep away from pets and children. This product is offered for sale for home delivery exclusively via our website only. Pachira Aquatica is a striking but undemanding houseplant with gorgeous twining stems and luxurious, palmate leaves. Also known as the Money Tree, Guiana Chestnut or the Saba Nut it is an exotic-looking specimen that will be the talking point of your home. A native of South and Central America that thrives near wetlands and swamps, hence its name 'Aquatica'. It loves soil that is moist at all times so it's virtually indestructible and also thrives in indirect light, so growing it indoors is a piece of cake. Preferring a warm, light position, a little shade is also well tolerated by this sturdy houseplant. Just position it in the brightest area of your home and leave it to do its thing. Supplied as a potted plant in a 12cm nursery pot. Please note that the decorative pot is not included.Care GuidePachira aquatica needs to be watered - allow it to dry out a little between waterings then give it a generous dousing until the water begins to drain from the pot. It will love a little water-soluble feed from spring through to early summer. A high humidity is also appreciated, so spray the plant regularly, especially if kept in a centrally-heated house. During the winter, place Pachira in a cooler room, and carry out any routine pruning needed: snip back stems just in front of a leaf or node to remove length. Cut no more than 1/3 of a stem and snip it at a 45-degree angle to promote new growth. Trim back the top stems to prevent your tree from growing too tall - keeping it pruned low to the twisted trunk will help control its size. Snip off any new stems that form at the base of the twisted trunk. Snip off close to the trunk, but not flush. This product is offered for sale for home delivery exclusively via our website only. Also known as Heavenly Bamboo, Nandina will bring bright and dazzling colour to your borders or patio pots. Nandina is totally invaluable during the winter when there's little colour around. Not unlike a colourful version of our own native holly, Nandina has a bushy upright habit, with toothpick-straight stems making it an excellent candidate for containers - and this variety, 'Lemon and Lime' has gorgeous bright yellowy-green leaves that will turn into a brighter shade of lime green as times goes on. As it's evergreen, Nandina retains its foliage throughout the year and depending on where you plant it. In a bright and sunny spot, the foliage will take on much brighter tones, however, if you plant yours in a shaded area, the green of 'Lemon and Limes' leaves will take on a deeper and darker tone. They are super easy to grow - just plant yours in your desired spot and leave it to shine. Supplied as and established plant in a 17cm pot, ready to pot on or plant out.
Monstera 'Monkey Leaf' is like a compact Monstera deliciosa, or more commonly known as a Swiss Cheese plant. It has the same heart shaped leaves, with irregular holes.
