Swiss Cheese Indoor Plant Monstera Deliciosa 14cm Pot
  • £14.99

The Swiss Cheese Plant, Monstera Deliciosa, is an ever popular and easy to grow houseplant that has inspired generations of indoor gardeners. With glossy, rich green leaves with irregular holes, the plants will trail gently over their pot if left untrained or can be treated as a climber and tied to a support. The glossy, tropical leaves are what makes this plant a star, easily adding a lush, exotic feel to any room. It's fascinating to watch the young leaves as they emerge tightly furled, growing longer each day before opening fully. Young leaves are solid, but as the plant matures they begin to develop the characteristic holes. Naturally a lazy climber, your plant will enjoy the support of a moss pole (not supplied) where you can push its aerial roots into the moss as they develop, helping to support it as it grows. A native of tropical rainforests, Monstera is a houseplant that is easy to keep happy. We recommend that you place it in bright but not direct sunlight indoors and mist the leaves regularly to provide humidity. They love a leaf-wipe now and again to remove dust and restore that glossy sheen. Supplied as an established plant in a 14cm pot. As with all houseplants, keep away from children and pets and take care when handling. Please note that the decorative pot is not included.Care GuideBest grown in indirect sunlight in an average room temperature - avoid large temperature fluctuations. Water regularly and allow the soil to dry a bit between watering. Feed once a month with a general-purpose liquid houseplant feed. Mist leaves to maintain humidity. Clean leaves regularly with a damp cloth. Do not place in direct sunlight, as this will scorch and yellow the leaves. Keep out of darker areas as growth will be spindly and new leaves will lose their holes and cuts. The leaves of Monstera deliciosa are toxic so keep away from pets and children. This product is offered for sale for home delivery exclusively via our website only. All heights listed are approximate and fully established plant heights may vary. The amount of foliage, buds or bloom on the plant will depend on what part of the season the product is purchased. Please see description below for full product details. This is a fabulous new colour addition to the amazing Bottlebrush family. No prizes for guessing where they get their name from - their classic spring flowers zing with intense colour. Usually red, this is the first widely available pink, and what a neon-pink it is too! Each flower is made up of thousands of thin stamens, each pollen rich, so become a mecca for bees and butterflies early in the season. Flowering in spring, it is great to attract early season pollinators to fruit - and sometimes has a mini flush of flowers again in autumn. Grow in a pot in a warm and sunny spot, in a well-drained mix. Although hardy to -5C or so, we would advise some winter protection, as early leaves and growth can be damaged.Top Tips- Callistemon will flower best when grown in full sun in moist but well drained soil in a sheltered position away from cold winds.- Outdoors, Callistemon (Bottlebrush) look great in mixed borders especially if combined with other drought tolerant plants such as salvias and lavenders.Care GuidePlanting Advice for Callistemon Bottlebrush:- Generally unfussy as to soil, poor soil benefits from the addition of plenty of organic matter.- Once established plants don't need special attention and are generally problem-free.- Pot-grown trees can be planted at any time of the year as long as the soil is not waterlogged or frozen.- Dig a square planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting and mix some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill once the shrub is in place.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove your Callistemon from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.- Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your tree in the hole at the same level at the pot, refill, firm, and water well.- Mulch around the base of the plant.- Plants can also be grown in a pot using a good quality soil-based compost.Aftercare Advice for your Bottlebrush:- Although drought-tolerant, Callistemon requires regular watering.- Feed with a general-purpose liquid feed in the growing season and top dress in the spring.- Callistemon can get out of hand under glass so restrictive pruning may be necessary to keep their shape.- Hardy in the UK down to -4°C! In very exposed sites, a fleece cover and mulch will see them safely through the winter. Potted plants can be moved to a cool conservatory or greenhouse.Pruning Advice for Callistemon:- Lightly prune after flowering to keep them under control, cutting just behind the spent bloom.- Callistemons in general don't like hard-pruning, so just remove spent flowerheads immediately after flowering, or trim new growth to maintain shape.Planting Time:March - AugustFlowering Time:March - MayAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire. Please see description below for full product details.Who could resist touching the fluffy red cylindrical flower heads that drip from the branches of this evergreen shrub during late spring and summer? Not many. But this native of Australia has more going for it than just its 'stroke me' qualities. The tiny leaves that cover its arching branches release a delicious lemony scent when brushed, and its arching branches provide all year round interest. Wherever you plant it its perfect as specimen in the lawn, grown against a wall or fence, or planted in large pots. A real sun lover, give it the brightest spot possible. You need to water a bottlebrush for its first season, but when established plants are extremely drought tolerant. Despite heralding from warmer climes this plant is incredibly tough and will easily cope with temperatures down to -50C. Protect it in harder winters by covering with fleece or grow in pots so it can be moved indoors (a shed, front porch, garage or conservatory would be ideal).Top Tips- Callistemon will flower best when grown in full sun in moist but well drained soil in a sheltered position away from cold winds.- Outdoors, Callistemon (Bottlebrush) look great in mixed borders especially if combined with other drought tolerant plants such as salvias and lavenders.Care GuidePlanting Advice for Callistemon Bottlebrush:- Generally unfussy as to soil, poor soil benefits from the addition of plenty of organic matter.- Once established plants don't need special attention and are generally problem-free.- Pot-grown trees can be planted at any time of the year as long as the soil is not waterlogged or frozen.- Dig a square planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting and mix some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill once the shrub is in place.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove your Callistemon from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.- Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your tree in the hole at the same level at the pot, refill, firm, and water well.- Mulch around the base of the plant.- Plants can also be grown in a pot using a good quality soil-based compost.Aftercare Advice for your Bottlebrush:- Although drought-tolerant, Callistemon requires regular watering.- Feed with a general-purpose liquid feed in the growing season and top dress in the spring.- Callistemon can get out of hand under glass so restrictive pruning may be necessary to keep their shape.- Hardy in the UK down to -4°C!
