When you encounter the beautiful Eriostemon myoporoides 'White Star' you'll understand its attraction. Also known as Long-leaf Waxflower, this hardy evergreen shrub is a scented wonder, worthy of a place in any garden. From March to May, this compact, scented ornamental is covered in small buds that open into star-shaped bright white flowers. Their delicious, sweet fragrance certainly rivals a Daphne and much like its contemporary, it also thrives in free-draining soil in a sunny, sheltered spot. Notably, and in addition to its fragrant flowers, the foliage has glands that emit a citrusy scent when crushed or touched, which makes them particularly useful as a cut flower. Its scented tactile, waxy leaves are said to smell a little like Gin and Tonic and it's certainly an ornamental plant worthy of a place in any garden. A hardy, reliable plant that will grow happily in dappled shade, this beautiful, early flowering spring shrub will bring year-round interest to your garden with its evergreen leaves, gorgeous flowers and wonderful perfume. Supplied as an established plant in a 15cm pot and ready to plant out.
'Rubinstar' apples are a lovely, rich maroon colour, occasionally splashed of with yellow, and being related to 'Jonagold' they are big and fabulously juicy with a deliciously sweet flavour and a crisp crunch. A versatile apple, they are gorgeously tasty picked straight from the tree and also ideal for cooking, making tasty desserts. 'Rubinstar' is a mutation of 'Jonagold' and is a 'triploid' variety, meaning that it has three sets of chromosomes instead of the usual two. Triploid varieties are sterile, so they can't pollinate themselves or other apple trees. They need other trees nearby to pollinate them, not an issue if you grow more than one apple in your garden, or if a nearby neighbour does! Supplied as an established tree, 150cm (5ft) tall grown on an M9 dwarfing rootstock in a 24cm pot, growing to a height, and spread of 2.5m (8ft).
Chlorophytum saundersiae 'Starlight' is a striking grass-like perennial, that is a relative of the well known house plant, the Spider Plant. However, this Hardy Spider Plant is suitable for outdoors, and can survive in temperatures as low as -5C (41F).
Be the envy of your gardening friends and grow a gorgeous Cordyline for instant Mediterranean impact. With arching deep red sword-shaped leaves, the Cordyline 'Red Star' is a splendid plant for the patio, contrasting beautifully with the more familiar greens of other plants and bringing a tropical feel to the garden. A native of New Zealand, Cordyline 'Red Star' is a compact, evergreen foliage plant, with glorious arching, bronze-red leaves and, on mature plants, branches of sweetly fragranced, ivory-white flowers in summer. An ideal specimen for growing in pots on patios and balconies, why not experiment and make a real tropical paradise by growing them alongside other tropical plants such as cannas, and broad-leaved Zantedeschias. Over time, your cordyline will grow and branch into a small, evergreen tree resembling a palm - hence cordyline's other name of cabbage palm - creating a unique look all year-round and for many years, adding colour to your garden when all else begins to fade. Easy to grow, cordylines need little maintenance and pruning is limited to removing any dead leaves in the spring. Able to withstand a -7C winter, we do however suggest frost protection with fleeces or wrapping or bringing it into a garage or porch during the coldest months. Plant in a pot and grow outside through the summer before moving to a protected space such as a greenhouse or conservatory for the winter. As plants mature they become more frost hardy so can be left outside in all but the coldest weather and will withstand all but severe frost. Supplied as a pair of established plants 70cm tall including 13cm pot ready to plant out or pot on.
