Apple 'Elstar' and 'James Grieve' Duo TreeNow everyone can grow fruit trees in the minimum of space! These incredible duo fruit trees have been meticulously grafted by highly skilled nurserymen to provide 2 different apple varieties growing on one rootstock. What's more, the rootstocks are dwarfing, meaning that your trees will always remain compact. You will get 2 different varieties of fruit from 1 tree - perfect for anyone who loves the idea of picking their own home-grown fresh fruit but has limited garden space. They are ideal for growing in a container on your patio and equally happy in a small border. With stunning spring blossom and attractive autumn foliage, not only do they taste good - they look good too! 'Elstar' AppleA versatile variety that is delicious and juicy eaten straight from the tree, this apple's honeyed sweetness balanced with acidic notes means it is also a great choice for cooking - superb in cakes and desserts and makes a great apple sauce! Producing medium-sized dessert apples, greenish-yellow at the base and flushing to an attractive red at the top, 'Elstar' are satisfying to bite into, their lemon-white flesh being crunchy but not too crisp. And, of course, they are bursting with juicy flavour.Developed in the Netherlands in the 1950s by crossing Golden Delicious with Ingrid Marie, this dessert apple is a favourite across Europe but not often seen in the UK. For use from October to December. 'James Grieve' Another superb old variety that you won't find in supermarkets. If you pick the elegant, red and green, satin-sheened fruit in early to mid-September, they are refreshingly acidic, sharp, and perfect for cooking scrummy apple crumbles and pies. However, if your wait a few weeks longer, the delicious flavour mellows, becoming mild, sweet and truly excellent picked straight from the tree. The soft flesh is literally packed with juice and glistens tantalisingly when you bite into it. If you can resist eating your whole crop, they make truly incredible juice! For use from September to October. Both varieties individually hold the RHS Award of Garden Merit, so you can be sure they will reward you with delicious full-sized fruit year after year. Fully hardy and self-fertile, they will produce bumper crops with the minimum of effort. Because they are already trained into a V shape, they are perfect for growing against a wall or fence, where they will reach a mature height of 1.5-1.8m.
Grow sumptious sweet Sharon Fruit - also known as Chinese Persimmon - in your own garden. These exotic trees are surprisingly hardy in the UK - even young trees will survive to -10C and when mature will withstand much more. Trees are self fertile making them easy to cultivate. The foliage alone justifies a space in the garden with large lustrous glossy leaves through summer which change to a glorious coppery plum colour in autumn. The fruits ripen in September and are sweet, juicy and ready to eat as they turn deep orange. Unpicked, they hold on the tree and are gloriously colourful even after leaf fall. Grow in a sunny spot away from wall as Sharon fruit like plenty of air movement around them. A large free standing pot is ideal and the tree will reach a height of around 5-6ft. Treat yourself to this really special and unusual tree!
Juglans regia, the English or common walnut is a deciduous, broadleaf tree with shiny, feather-like leaves and fleshy, green fruits which contain the delicious nuts. In spring, the trees produce tiny immature fruits which are wind pollinated by fat male catkins and, although trees are self-fertile, you can greatly improve yield by introducing another type of walnut. The walnuts themselves develop inside a fibrous, leathery casing which splits when the nuts ripen in early autumn. This is when the nuts are at their finest, with a softer texture and distinctive, creamy taste. If you want to store them for Christmas, you are best off drying or freezing them after removing all traces of the outer husk. These fast-growing trees can reach 30m (100ft) high and 15m (50ft) in ideal conditions, and although tend to be smaller in the UK, they're still a plant that likes lots of room to grow. Supplied as an established plant in a 22cm pot, approx. 1.5m tall, ready for planting out. Did you know... That walnuts originated in ancient Persia, where they were reserved for royalty. The best wood is at the base of the tree, so walnuts are often dug up for timber, rather than felled.Walnuts produce a growth inhibitor - juglone - that has a detrimental effect on some species of plants growing nearby and it is believed that this stops other plants growing around them and competing for nutrients - a very clever tree!
This really is a novelty plant and something different - so different in fact, we've not grown them fully either (yet!). We've located a small specialist grower in Holland who is developing ways to grow Avocados in Northern Europe and these fine trees are a great starting point. Avocados thrive in warm, humid conditions, so will need winter protection in the UK - they can grow outside on patios fine though between late May and September. They will grow quite quickly at 50cm a year and these are already pruned back, so this season will produce side branches. It makes an attractive indoor plant anyway, forming a woody trunk with pleasant glossy leaves. They usually take 5-7 years to produce fruit on a mature tree, and have fruited in UK before - indoors and out. These Avocados are so new though, you will have great fun trying growing them regardless of whether they fruit, safe in the knowledge that virtually no-one else has ever grown one! Very limitted stocks so order yours now to avoid disappointment!

With its neatly shaped, evergreen grey-green foliage, this Olive is perfect in a border or patio pot and will also look great in a pot in a conservatory. They love hot, sunny spots and thrive in free draining soil. If you love pears but only have room for one fruit tree, here is the perfect solution, as this tree has three different varieties growing on the same plant. It's not a freak of nature but the result of skilful grafting work by expert nurserymen who have grafted 2 additional varieties onto another pear tree. By careful selection of varieties you can be sure all three parts of the tree will grow in harmony and the fruits will ripen at their natural time, giving a succession of tasty fruits across a much wider cropping window than if just one variety were grown. No need to worry about pollination either, as the three varieties on the tree will pollinate each other! Your Family pear tree will thrive in a sunny border and, far from being just a curiosity, will mature into a highly productive tree. You can expect the first crop as soon as the year after planting. This is also the perfect fruit tree for a large pot on the patio. The main tree is Williams - a classic English pear with meltingly juicy flesh that is ready in mid-September. Onto this have been grafted: Conference - the perfect all-rounder. Elongated fruit are ready to pick in October for ripening through autumn. It gives medium-sized pears with an aromatic, honeyed sweetness. Pick in October. Keep cool and bring the fruits in to ripen as needed through to Christmas. Supplied as a Three Variety Family Pear Tree, in a 5L pot, approx. 130cm tall including pot.

Supplied as a bare root, grower quality tree, grafted on a single rootstock with 2 cherry varieties.Top Tips- Birds will quickly strip the ripening cherries from the tree - drape netting over cherry trees to protect the fruit from birds.Care Guide- Best grown in moderately fertile soil in full sun. Also perfect in large pots on a patio - 30cm diameter or larger and keep well watered.- Shrub roots generally tend to spread out rather than down, so dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting, and mix some well rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill one the shrub is in place.- We've found that a square hole is better than a round one as the new roots, once they reach the edges tend to grow in a circle round the circumference of the hole whereas when they reach the corners of a square hole, they find it easier to grow through.- Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.- Add Mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help plants establish quicker.- Place your shrub in the hole at the same level at the pot.- Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).- Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball, water well.- Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.- Apply a slow-release fertiliser such as blood fish and bone in early spring, and mulch to retain moisture, about a month before flowering.- Established trees don't require radical pruning to keep them fruiting, just take off any diseased, dying and damaged branches, (the three Ds) in spring. Look at the overall shape and aim for an open structure of branches and remove any that cross over so they don't damage each other. Trim longer new shoots back mid-summer for better shaped trees.- Harvest crops as soon as they ripen. Avoid leaving windfalls or over-ripe fruit on the ground.- Don't forget the tree guards as rabbits can strip the bark overnight.Planting Time:September - JuneFlowering Time:April - MayFruiting Time:July - AugustAbout You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire.
