Ficus Microcarpa Ginseng Indoor Plant 14cm Pot
  • £14.99

A quirky plant that is grown in Bonsai style, Ficus Ginseng is a robust, easy-care houseplant that will bring a little Zen into your home. A bonsai suitable for beginners, the plant is characterised by the shape of its trunk and the miniature canopy of small, shiny oval leaves. The thick, pot-bellied trunk is actually made up of roots and this is where it gets its name, Ginseng meaning root in China. Originating in Asia, the roots of Ficus Ginseng are grown for 15 years or so before being finished in the greenhouse as bonsai, so your little plant has already had a long life by the time it arrives in your home. Place your Ficus 'Ginseng' in a prominent place so it can be enjoyed all day. In summer it can even take pride of place outdoors on the patio or decking. Ideal for those venturing into the world of bonsai growing for the first time, Ficus Ginseng is the easiest bonsai tree to grow because it is very tolerant of a range of conditions. Supplied as a potted plant in a 14cm nursery pot. Please note that the decorative pot is not included.Care GuideFicus Ginseng thrives indoors in good light and appreciates being kept outdoors during spring and summer. If outside, protect your bonsai from the midday sun, and when temperatures drop below 54F (12C) bring it indoors and place it on or near a windowsill. Never neglect watering; allow the compost to dry between waterings, but not completely. If you accidentally let your tree’s soil dry out, immerse the container in a bucket of water for an hour to properly soak it, before draining well. In the winter, you'll need to water less. It is normal for a Ficus tree to lose some leaves, but if it’s dropping more than a few, then under or over watering may be the problem. Ficus may also lose leaves if not getting enough light - simply move your plant into a sunnier spot. Also, acclimatisation after moving may have an effect - this is normal, especially if your plant has summered outdoors as it’s simply getting used to a new position. This product is offered for sale for home delivery exclusively via our website only. Money Tree Pachira Aquatica Indoor Plant 12cm Pot
  • £14.99

Pachira Aquatica is a striking but undemanding houseplant with gorgeous twining stems and luxurious, palmate leaves. Also known as the Money Tree, Guiana Chestnut or the Saba Nut it is an exotic-looking specimen that will be the talking point of your home. A native of South and Central America that thrives near wetlands and swamps, hence its name 'Aquatica'. It loves soil that is moist at all times so it's virtually indestructible and also thrives in indirect light, so growing it indoors is a piece of cake. Preferring a warm, light position, a little shade is also well tolerated by this sturdy houseplant. Just position it in the brightest area of your home and leave it to do its thing. Supplied as a potted plant in a 12cm nursery pot. Please note that the decorative pot is not included.Care GuidePachira aquatica needs to be watered - allow it to dry out a little between waterings then give it a generous dousing until the water begins to drain from the pot. It will love a little water-soluble feed from spring through to early summer. A high humidity is also appreciated, so spray the plant regularly, especially if kept in a centrally-heated house. During the winter, place Pachira in a cooler room, and carry out any routine pruning needed: snip back stems just in front of a leaf or node to remove length. Cut no more than 1/3 of a stem and snip it at a 45-degree angle to promote new growth. Trim back the top stems to prevent your tree from growing too tall - keeping it pruned low to the twisted trunk will help control its size. Snip off any new stems that form at the base of the twisted trunk. Snip off close to the trunk, but not flush. This product is offered for sale for home delivery exclusively via our website only. Japanese Grey Bark Elm Zelkova Bonsai Ball Plant 22-25cm Tall
  • £19.99

Zelkova Serrata, also known as the Japanese Grey Bark Elm, is a wonderful starting point as you enter the magical world of bonsai, a revered art form in Japan and China for 2000 years. A delightful deciduous tree with a naturally upright growing habit, peeling grey bark and serrated glossy dark green leaves. Years of highly skilled training and pruning have contributed to this elegant miniature tree, already well established in a special ceramic bonsai pot. A native of Japan and China, Zelkova is happy in a cool, bright room away from heat sources. It will also thrive outdoors from early summer where it will soon acclimatise to cooler nights and warmer days. As a deciduous tree, it will lose its leaves in the autumn, when it can be brought back indoors for the winter. Trees that have been kept indoors year-round may retain some of their foliage over winter. Bonsai need regular watering as they can easily dry out. This is especially important if your Zelkova is growing outdoors, when the small amount of compost in the pot can dry out quickly on a warm, sunny day. Regular feeding between March and September is necessary to keep it growing healthily. A light trim will be required each Autumn to perfect the tree's shape. Supplied ready planted, 22-25cm tall including a 12cm ceramic bonsai pot with tray.General Bonsai Tree Care: Watering your Bonsai: Because it is restricted in a small pot, your bonsai will need checking morning and evening to see if it needs watering. Keep your bonsai on its tray; this will catch the water draining through the holes in the bottom of the pot and will create some humidity around your bonsai, especially useful if you have central heating on. Don't let your bonsai sit in water as this can damage its roots.Where to put your Bonsai: During winter place your bonsai in the brightest place possible, avoiding artificial heat such as radiators. If placing your bonsai on a windowsill, keep it out of direct sunlight as they prefer cooler rooms. During the summer, your bonsai will enjoy a spell outside, just remember to keep it in a bright, sheltered position.Feeding your Bonsai: We always recommend feeding your bonsai with a specialist fertiliser - ordinary plant foods can be too strong for the bonsai and may scorch the roots. Feed once a week to once a fortnight during the spring, summer and autumn.Reduce the feeding to approximately once a month in mid-winter when it is barely growing. Yellowing of the leaves if the bonsai is deficient in nutrients. How to Prune Your Bonsai: Once new shoots have grown to about 2-3cm, using a sharp pair of bonsai scissors carefully cut back to the first pair of new leaves. Your bonsai has individual branches and you should prune to maintain the gaps between them. Prune regularly to maintain the shape - start as soon as you get your tree. During the growing season any long shoots or crossing branches should be trimmed back. This product is offered for sale for home delivery exclusively via our website only. The images represent established plants, the supplied product may be younger. All heights listed are approximate and fully established plant heights may vary. The amount of foliage, buds or bloom on the plant will depend on what part of the season the product is purchased.About You GardenEstablished for over 50 years, our award winning trusted plant supplier are based in South Lincolnshire.
