Slowly growing into large clumps, Red Baron boasts 50cm long leaves that are green near the base turning more intensively red towards its tips. Equally at home in semi-shade as it is full sun, this grass is great for making a statement in pots or can be grown alongside perennials or other grasses in beds. If you really want to make an impact, plant it end-masse, in swathes or as an edging plant alongside a path. Dead easy to look after water it occasionally, especially in pots, and cut plants to ground level when they start to wither later in the year or before new growth appears in spring.Top Tips- These ornamental grasses are deciduous, cut back stems close to ground level from late February through to the end of March before new growth starts.Care Guide- Before planting, prepare the soil by digging over and removing any weeds. Incorporate some well-rotted manure to enrich the soil if necessary.- When planting a number of perennials, arrange them on the surface so you can see how they will look before planting.- Individually knock out each plant from its container. Look at the roots if they are circling around the compost, it is best to tease them out. To do this, push your fingers into the rootball along the bottom edge and pull. Do this in a couple of places. Recently introduced to UK gardens, this daphne is a superb alternative to the popular 'Eternal Fragrance' and will provide you with flowers for months on end often right up to autumn. 'Pink Fragrance's' perfumed blooms are produced in abundance from April until October every year and being a compact and slow-growing variety' it's perfect for smaller gardens or for growing in a container on your decking or patio. One of the remarkable things about this beautiful semi-evergreen is that rather unusually for a daphne, it produces flowers on new growth, meaning the lovely pink blooms just keep on coming right through the summer. Grow it in a pot and place on the patio or near a garden path so you can fully enjoy the delightful scent. Height and spread 90 cm (3ft). Sprinkle in a handful of blood, fish and bone and work into the ground.- If your soil is heavy, add plenty of well-rotted compost to the area and dig it in well. Horticultural sand/grit added to the mix is also beneficial.- Place the plant into the hole, backfilling so that it is at the same depth as was in the pot.
