Finding great specimen trees for smaller gardens or limited spaces, such as patios, can be a challenge, but we think we've cracked it for you here! The stunning 'Flamingo Willow', or Salix integra 'Hakuro-nishiki' to give it it's correct botanical name, produces a stunning spring and summer ritual, bursting forth from bare branches, often with catkins on, into a mass of amazing creamy pink variegated and tipped new shoots, set against white mottled and marbled leaves, keeping that lovely contrast all summer. It is really hardy and easy to grow, simply hack it back to shape in late autumn, it is great in large pots as a feature plant, but needs to be grown where you can see it's delicate colours. 'Polka' is simpy the best garden grown raspberry you can get. That's a bold claim, but it combines quick first year fruiting being a primocane variety, with exceptional large fruit sizes and big big yields well into the Autumn. Primocane raspberries are the big gardeners' breakthrough - they produce fruit on NEW stems, so you get fruit in the same year as you plant them, rather than wait a year for old-fashioned types. And planting them as 'short cane', where they are cut back to 25cm or so above ground level means they require less support to get going. 'Polka' yields up to 5lbs (2.2Kg) PER plant once establsihed, so you can look forward to picking big juicy crops of raspberries form August well into October, as this Autumn fruiting special keeps on fruiting. This is a fabulous new colour addition to the amazing Bottlebrush family. No prizes for guessing where they get their name from - their classic spring flowers zing with intense colour. Usually red, this is the first widely available pink, and what a neon-pink it is too! Each flower is made up of thousands of thin stamens, each pollen rich, so become a mecca for bees and butterflies early in the season. Flowering in spring and early summer, it is great to attract early season pollinators to fruit - and sometimes has a mini flush of flowers again in autumn. Grow in a pot in a warm and sunny spot, in a well-drained mix. A half-hardy shrub, give winter protection in colder, windier spots, as early leaves and growth can be damaged.
