New to us for 2019, this completely thornless and vigorous golden autumn raspberry has been bred in the UK by the world-famous East Malling Research facility. Primocane raspberries are the big gardeners' breakthrough - they produce fruit on NEW stems, so you get fruit in the same year as you plant them, rather than wait a year for old-fashioned types. In addition, you can increase cropping by tip pruning existing canes which then develop side shoots for a truly phenomenal harvest of raspberries. Easy to grow, upright and robust, the canes are completely thornless and can be grown in a large container using bamboo for support so you don't even need a garden, and they're fully hardy and easy to keep as well, just cut back old, fruited canes to the ground in spring. The very large, firm, conical fruit have a beautiful, apricot colour and a fabulous, gourmet flavour which develops as the berries ripen, so wait until the fruits turn from yellow to apricot before picking. Everyone loves fresh Rhubarb in their garden, and it's one of the easiest things to grow on a kitchen garden. But, it has one drawback - it throws masses of lovely succulent new stems in Spring for a Month, then that's pretty much it...... feast and famine. That's because all Rhubarb plants till now go dormant in Summer. Redcurrants are a great starting point if you're new to growing your own soft fruit and 'Summer Pearls Red' is a wonderful variety with its gorgeous looking, wonderful tasting bunches of shiny bright red fruit. A great source of a wide range of vitamins, this tasty superfruit is a superb addition to your favourite desserts or breakfast cereals, accompanying ice cream and for making redcurrant jelly. Harvest them by picking the whole string, they're delicious eaten straight from the bush but long lasting in the fridge and freezer too. Redcurrants make attractive garden plants in their own right and can be easily trained as cordons and espaliers against a wall or fence. Although they produce the sweetest tasting fruit when grown in full sun, they also do well in partial shade. So easy to grow, hardy and vigorous, cropping reliably whilst requiring little care. The fastest of all raspberries, this unique berry is compact and ideal for growing in pots. The medium-sized fruits are produced from July and have a sumptuous, dark red colour. 'Summer Lovers' is classed as an autumn-fruiting raspberry, however once established it will start to bear fruit in the summer from the middle of July - 3 weeks before 'Autumn Bliss'. In addition, and as a contrast to the classic summer raspberries, this one is a primocane variety bearing fruit on new wood therefore meaning you'll get fruit in the very first year - no need to wait a year for crops! Easy to maintain, it requires just a little prune to simply remove old canes once they are older than 18 months and that's it. A breakthrough in raspberry breeding, 'Summer Lovers Garden Red' beats other established varieties in fruiting time, exceeding the current August crop of the earliest autumn berries. In fact, this variety has made the term 'autumn fruiting' obsolete as it matures in the middle of summer! An opium poppy in jewel-like shades of rich velvet-plum, this hardy annual is best sown where it is to flower. The large bowl-shaped blooms rise tall on twisty stems atop attractive clumps of subtle, grey-green foliage. With gorgeous open, papery petals and exquisite pale yellow stamens, they will attract a variety of beneficial insects to your garden - a great companion plant to aid pollination and encourage wildlife.
