Vitax Tree Fern & Palm Feed 500ml
  • £5.99

Containing all the major plant nutrients plus magnesium and trace elements, making it the perfect feed for tree ferns in pots and planted outdoors. It's also an ideal feed for indoor and outdoor palms, bamboo, grasses and other ferns. Tree ferns thrive in a sheltered, humid and shaded position, in humus-rich soil, gaining nutrients from decaying vegetation that falls from the forest canopy into the crown of the tree fern. Vitax Tree Fern and Palm feed replicates this process to maximising growth, maintain colour and ensure a strong, healthy plant. Watering and Feeding: The trunk and crown of tree ferns will not tolerate drying out, so water regularly to ensure that it remains moist, and spray the trunk with water during hot or dry weather; this will encourage the tree to send out roots. After roots have established, you can commence feeding, applying the liquid feed to both crown and trunk every 7-10 days during the growing season (from April to July). How to use: Measure 1 capful (20ml) and add to 2L of water. On an already wetted trunk, slowly pour the mixture into the crown and allow it to overflow and soak into the trunk. A thick layer of organic mulch on the ground surrounding the trunk will help feed the plant slowly and naturally. Feed palms, bamboos grasses and other ferns using 1 capful in 2L of water every 7-10 days while in growth.

Skelly Tray and 12 BioPots
  • £9.99

A new innovation, the Skelly Pot and Tray - the greener way to garden. Recently launched at the UK's premier Horticultural Trade Show, it won Best New Professional Product, and we are delighted to be the first to offer it to the amateur garden market. There is clear pressure and desire to reduce single use plastics now, and these compressed peat Jiffy Bio pots are perfect, giving 3-4 months of growing pants in them as they slowly degrade, meaning once rooted to plant them pot and all into the garden or planter. The game changer is when combined with the 'Skeleton' tray, the unique design allows lots of air to circulate round the side of the bio pots, as opposed to very little when they are wet and rammed into a solid sided plastic trays. The benefit of this is 'air pruning' - when a new root hair meets the air, it stops growing out, and increases branching and new root development in the compost, as well as letting more air into the compost too. This creates stronger, more well-rooted and compact plants that race away with no transplant shock when potted on or planted out. Designed by an old school commercial grower in northern England, who also invented the Easy Fill hanging basket, he now grows his bedding plants in this system, because it : Reduces plastic use Produces Quicker, better rooting out Grows More compact and robust plants Offers Quicker and easier to plant straight out Perfect for pricking out seedlings and plugs for 3-4 weeks to grow on, or sow or root your own cuttings in them. Supplied as a single tray, plus 8cm diameter Jiffy Bio pots for 12 plants. Refill packs of biopots are available. Ask us for quotes on larger volumes.

Compostable Leaf Sacks (Pack of 3)
  • £2.49

Natural green-garden waste and fallen leaves in particular are a rich source of nutrients for the garden and one of those lovely natural resources that no gardener should be without, so make sure that you make the most of this great supply of free compost! Come autumn, we get the ideal opportunity to stock up on all that gorgeous leaf litter...however all the leaves fall at once and shorter days mean that your time is limited so we end up with a delicate balancing act between keeping the garden neat and finding somewhere to store that excellent source of organic compost - often we simply end up sweeping them into a pile and then disposing of them. Fortunately, we have the ideal solution! These loose-weave jute sacks can neatly hold thousands of fallen leaves and keep them contained until they break down. Once you have picked up your compostable waste, put it into the handy leaf sacks. They are made from loose woven natural jute, and each one is completely biodegradable. Simply fill them up, add them to your compost heap or a corner of the garden and forget about them. As the sacks are biodegradable, over time, they will break down along with the green waste inside, leaving you with your own homemade compost. After one year, the leaves should have rotted down enough to use as a mulch around the garden, and after two years you should have a perfect soil conditioner. Measurements (approx): L70cm x W40cm

Evergreen Hardy Fern Collection
  • £14.97

Ferns are fascinating and ancient plants, being found in fossils from over 140 million years ago. They don't produce seeds or flowers, and instead reproduce using spores. The leaves, known as fronds, begin life curled up tightly in the centre of the plant, and gradually unfurl upwards before arching outwards. Quite a sight! Our collection of evergreen ferns features three of the most familiar varieties, each with a different foliage shape, from the classic woodland Buckler fern to the almost tropical looking Harts Tongue fern and the narrow fronds of the Deer fern. They will compliment each other beautifully when planted together, and they're also great in pots. They're easy to grow and almost maintenance free too. What's more, all three of these spectacular plants hold an RHS Award of Garden Merit, so you know that these are highly regarded garden plants. Ferns are happiest growing in dappled light in cool, moist and fertile soil, although they will tolerate brighter sunshine. They look spectacular in shaded borders or woodland style gardens with their wonderfully lush, rich green colours. Supplied as 3 established plants in 9 cm pots, ready to plant, including: Deer Fern - Blechnum spicant. A beautiful evergreen fern that forms a rosette of ladder-shaped fronds, reaching a height of 45 cm (1½ ft) and spread of 60 cm (2 ft). Harts Tongue Fern - Asplenium scolopendrium. Long, broad and glossy evergreen, tongue shaped green fronds in neatly arching clumps, reaching a height and spread of 60 cm (2 ft). Buckler Fern - Dryopteris erythrosora.
