Organic Potato Fertiliser has been specifically formulated to provide your crop of potatoes with everything they need to produce a bountiful harvest. In particular it has been developed to promote the sustained healthy growth, making sure you get a good crop, whatever soil you have. Use at the time of planting at the application rate specified on the pack (circa 50g per square metre) and then top-dress every 4-6 weeks thereafter at the same rate, working the fertiliser in to the top inch or so of soil around the growing potatoes. It can be used when growing potatoes in your soil as well as in pots and tubs. The nutrient analysis (N:P:K) is 4:2.4:8 plus essential trace elements, and so is also suitable for use with any other vegetable crop. Watering and Feeding: The trunk and crown of tree ferns will not tolerate drying out, so water regularly to ensure that it remains moist, and spray the trunk with water during hot or dry weather; this will encourage the tree to send out roots. After roots have established, you can commence feeding, applying the liquid feed to both crown and trunk every 7-10 days during the growing season (from April to July). How to use: Measure 1 capful (20ml) and add to 2L of water. On an already wetted trunk, slowly pour the mixture into the crown and allow it to overflow and soak into the trunk. Natural green-garden waste and fallen leaves in particular are a rich source of nutrients for the garden and one of those lovely natural resources that no gardener should be without, so make sure that you make the most of this great supply of free compost! Leca is an attractive and versatile medium that can be used for top dressing pot grown plants both indoors and outdoors, as well as a soil alternative. Short for Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate, it is organic, environmentally friendly, washable and reusable. The 10-16 mm diameter clay balls look great when used to cover the soil in plant pots, and will absorb water, slowly releasing it into the soil beneath for even, consistent watering whilst stopping weeds from growing. They're also ideal for adding to the bottom of pots at planting time to improve drainage. Not only will leca make your planters and pots look superb with a neat, attractive finish, but it can also be used as a growing medium. Naturally free draining, plants can be grown in nothing more that a pot filled with the clay balls. Your plants won't sit in water and will get all the moisture they need from what's been absorbed by the clay - particularly good for growing orchids! However, leca contains no nutrients, so you'll need to feed your plants. For an excellent growing environment for plants that love moist but well drained conditions and good air circulation, mix it into the compost, up to two thirds leca to one third compost. Much lighter than soil or compost, your plants will be much easier to move around too, great for houseplants. Supplied as a 40 litre bag of 10-16 mm diameter clay balls.
A spectacular cordyline with striking, broad sword-like leaves, 'Burgundy Spire' will bring stunning contrast to your garden planting. The leaves are an incredibly dark burgundy purple and this stunning evergreen shrub will bring a sultry, dark and exotic look to your garden. When planted in borders, the colour will make all of the plants around it really stand out, especially those with bright flowers in shades or orange, blue and red and white. Like all cordylines, also known as cabbage palms, 'Burgundy Spire' is wonderfully architectural, and looks superb growing in a statement planter on a patio or either side of a gate or doorway, and will eventually forming a trunk as it grows upwards and sheds its lower leaves and begins to look like a small palm tree. Once mature 'Burgundy Spire' will produce clusters of small, sweetly scented creamy white flowers that are attractive to bees and butterflies, followed in autumn by berries that birds love to eat. Although hardy to around -7°C (19°F), we recommend that you provide your cordyline with protection during the coldest winter weather, either by tying up the leaves and wrapping in fleece, or bringing pot grown plants under cover. Ferns are fascinating and ancient plants, being found in fossils from over 140 million years ago. They don't produce seeds or flowers, and instead reproduce using spores. The leaves, known as fronds, begin life curled up tightly in the centre of the plant, and gradually unfurl upwards before arching outwards. Quite a sight! Our collection of evergreen ferns features three of the most familiar varieties, each with a different foliage shape, from the classic woodland Buckler fern to the almost tropical looking Harts Tongue fern and the narrow fronds of the Deer fern. They will compliment each other beautifully when planted together, and they're also great in pots. They're easy to grow and almost maintenance free too.
