For those looking for a Peat-Free potting compost, our Multipurpose is carefully blended from a mix of composted coir (cocofibre), fine bark chippings for aeration, and a sterilised mixed organic green waste. 'Magic Pillow' is a very unusual, low growing ground cover hydrangea that's native to the hillsides of Korea and Japan. Living up to its name beautifully, it's covered in abundant flowers from June until September, creating a wonderful pillow of colour. The flower colour changes depending on the acidity of the soil. Alkaline soils will produce gorgeous pink blooms, whilst acid soil will give you strikingly bright mauve-blue. The flower heads open from the outside inwards, becoming fully with each day and although the stems are shorter than most hydrangeas, the flowers still make excellent cut flowers and dry well too. The foliage is lush and green with serrated leaves in spring and summer, and in autumn it transforms to incredible flaming red, orange and purple before they fall. As with all hydrangeas, the faded flowers look spectacular if left on the plant over winter. 'Magic Pillow' is an excellent ground covering shrub that will keep weeds under control and look particularly good at the front of a deep border or on a bank. Preferring light shade over full sun, it's also an ideal shrub for a woodland style garden. These incredible Skyscraper Lilies grow so tall they look like trees! In their first year they will reach up to 1.5m (5ft) tall, but in future years, once they are fully established, they will get even taller up to 6 or even 7 foot tall eventually! These large flowered beauties arise as a consequence hybridisation between Oriental and Trumpet strains of lily hence the marriage of both species characteristics. Every flower carries a wonderful heady perfume and each individual stem can carry well over 20 blooms, which can measure well over 15cm (6in) across. This collection comprises of 9 top sizes bulbs, 3 of each variety, the same as used by commercial flower growers in Holland: - Conca d'Or - gorgeous soft lemon yellow - Robina - deep pink, verging towards berry purple - Matisse - cream-edged to red-purple centres, a classic two-tone Lily Grow all 3 in large pots about 15cm apart, or in groups in garden borders. A soft fruit which is bursting with flavour and Vitamin C, Blackcurrant Ben Lomond has large glossy black fruit which cover the branches of this completely new type of blackcurrant in mid-summer. Unlike most others, which require a lot of space to grow, this compact beauty only ever grows to around 1m (3ft) making it perfect for the smallest of gardens. If you want to grow a healthy, power-packed fruit, then the blackcurrant has to be one to try. Recent research has even gone as far to suggest that the dark berries, rich in anthocyanins and polyphenols, may actually help to reduce the symptoms of neurological illness and potentially reduce the risk of gut cancers - hence it's superfruit status! Really easy to grow, Blackcurrant Ben Lomond will thrive in a sunny, sheltered spot out of strong winds and prefers well-drained soil (or compost). Grow it in a border, a large pot or even plant several to make a fruiting hedge.Plants are as tough as old boots and have flowers that are resistant to frost - in fact they need a winter chill to produce bigger crops of berries, perfect for the UK climate!
