Nandina Domestica Collection
  • £19.98

Nandinas, also known as Heavenly or Sacred Bamboo, are amongst the best shrubs you can grow for adding bright flashes of dazzling colour to your borders or patio pots. They are invaluable during the winter when there's little colour around. Not unlike a colourful version of our own native holly, Nandina has a bushy upright habit, with toothpick-straight stems making it an excellent candidate for containers. As they are evergreen, they will retain their foliage throughout the year and the colours change as temperatures dip, taking on deeper and more saturated hues. In this collection your will receive: Nandina Domestica 'Firepower' - With its bamboo-like habit, 'Firepower' is a beautiful and compact shrub, producing several upright stems from a tight clump of foliage which is mid-green during spring and summer. Tinged with red and purple on new shoots, it also produces clusters of small white flowers in summer, that become shiny red berries in autumn, which is the time that the real show begins as the leaves change colour. The evergreen leaves become a spectacular bonfire orange and red, for stunning autumn colour which transforms to deeper maroon as it gets colder and the berries change to brighter and brighter red, so the whole plant is a frenzy of colour throughout winter. Grows to 50cm. Nandina Domestica 'Obsessed' - This particular variety has amazing, variegated leaves which give off a sultry pink glow. A true multi-season feature plant, in spring new leaves emerge flushed pink, green and cream, then in summer, small creamy-white flowers are followed by green berries, before the leaves develop more colour and the berries turn sealing-wax red - just superb! Grows to 120cm.  They are very easy to grow, they look great when planted in a pot, so you can move it near the door to lift your spirits on dark days, or equally at home in the soil in a mixed border planting. In Japan, they are traditionally grown near a door, so if you awake from a nightmare, you can tell your Nandina about your dream so that it cannot harm you! Supplied as 2 x established plants in 12cm pots, ready to plant out.

Skelly Tray x 3 and 36 Jiffy Bio Pots
  • £19.97

A new innovation, the Skelly Pot and Tray - the greener way to garden. We're really excited to bring you an eco-friendly potting revolution - the new, fully reusable and recyclable 'Skelly Tray' and Jiffy Bio Pots. Effectively improving the quality and efficiency of plant growth, this pot carrier enables the bio pots to become an attractive, cost effective and eco-friendly alternative to plastic pots - helping to reduce landfill and working towards the overall amount of plastic polluting the environment. The unique 'skeleton' design exposes the bio pots to the air, which 'prunes' the roots, giving more compact plants. The bio pots allow any plants to be grown in them for 3-4 months and the whole bio pot can go straight into the ground for zero transplant delay - pots then degrade naturally in the soil after planting. Eco-pots have always been the favourite choice for gardeners keen to help the environment, as they ensure even watering and can be planted pot and all. Used in conjunction with bio pots, the Skelly Tray allows to effectively group a number of pots together, improving air circulation and therefore decrease disease and increase growth. Bletilla striata Hardy Orchid
  • £19.97

Orchids are one of the most popular plants in the UK and when you see their exotic blooms, it's easy to see why. The ones that we are used to seeing are houseplants and need to be grown inside - however there is a hardy orchid that you can grow in your own garden! Bletilla, or the Hyacinth Orchid, is one of the hardiest and easiest to grow garden orchids in the UK, slowly forming clumps which produce their gorgeously detailed violet-pink flowers in early summer. When grown in light, dappled shade, bletilla is quite unfussy so it can be grown in the ground under trees, in lawns, or even in patio pots (in shade). B. striata forms a clump of attractive, ribbed, sword-shaped leaves, with erect stems bearing many violet, fragrant, orchid-shaped flowers in spring and early summer. Blooms can reach up to 5cm wide, and each has a ruffled lip in a slightly darker shade, making them a stunning addition to your garden. Although hardy to -10, we recommend growing them in a container where they can be moved to a conservatory or unheated greenhouse during winter, and in mild areas a generous layer of dry mulch should be applied in autumn to provide protection for the corms. Alternatively, lift the corms in autumn and store it in a dry, frost-free place. One thing you need to remember is that bletilla should be kept dry during their winter dormancy, as they will not survive cold, wet soil. An easy to grow plant, which if left undisturbed, will naturalise and spread out to form good-sized clumps. Supplied as 3 x established plants in 9cm pots, ready for potting on or planting out when the soil warms, plants can reach 50cm high and 50cm wide. NB - Plants are dormant October to March so there may be no leaves on your plant when delivered.
