Packed full of vitamins and minerals as well as antioxidants, they are not only really good for you but they taste great too! Blueberries provide true season-long interest and will produce wonderfully fragrant tubular blossom in spring, followed by delicious fruits that form and colour up ready for picking from June onwards. Blueberries make brilliant patio plants and will grow perfectly in pots. Do remember to use ericaceous (slightly acidic pH) compost though as all blueberries are lime intolerant. I just thought you might like to see some photos of the orange tree I bought from you and oranges it produced this year. I got it around the beginning of last year and the fruit was over a year in the making, but it finally started to ripen in September...I have eaten two of the fruits, picking them when they fell off easily with handling. The other three ripe ones (I have a couple of small green ones on from this year too) aren't quite ready yet, so I will leave them for now. The fruits so far have had a slightly thicker skin than the ones you buy in the shops, but were so much sweeter and tastier. :-)Anyway, please find the photos attached and thanks for your help throughout the year. Teresa, Goole, Did you know The citrus family tree is an old and distinguished line and just like tea and spice helped build entire empires - not many other fruits can offer you that much history! Before they started their journey to places like Florida, Spain and Brazil, just five species of citrus dominated: Kumquat Papeda Citron Pomelo Mandarin and it from this basic genetic pool that we get all the varieties that we see today. Unlike many species of plants and animal, citrus are fortunate in that they are sexually compatible and highly prone to mutation, mixing genes and creating new plants with abandon! This provides the ideal opportunity for plant breeders to intervene and by selective breeding create the commercial varieties that we are all familiar with. Citrus have been around since the Miocene epoch - that's 7 million years - so they're a highly successful species and their constant evolution means that there's always something new appearing. For example, varieties that we take for granted such as the grapefruit are a recent arrival at just 300 years old. With so much opportunity to create more varieties, the future is definitely looking golden for the citrus and for us too, with many more, juicier, sweeter, and bigger fruits reaching our tables and gardens.

Camellia sinensis -  Tea Plant
  • £7.99

Grown your own tea with these fabulous easy-care plants. The 'Tea Plant' is a striking evergreen shrub whose leaves can be picked and added to the teapot to make up your own cuppa. Come autumn they're covered in beautiful, white flowers which have a delightful scent - an added bonus if planted in a pot near the house. Camellia sinensis produces fresh new leaves in spring which are the best leaves to pick for your teapot, although you can experiment with drying the leaves for a more traditional brew. Supplied in 15cm pots, these tea plants are ideal when grown in a container but can also be planted in the flower border among your favourite perennials as the Camellia's dark evergreen leaves highlight flower colour superbly. Care of your tea plant care is very straight forward; Water plants frequently during the first two years - generally two or three times per week during the summer, using rainwater whenever possible. Your plant will be dormant during the winter months, but in spring it will burst into life and you can start picking the freshest young leaves. You will be able to pick a few leaves in the first year, so that you can try making your very own tea - although it's best to limit yourself for the first 2-3 years of growth so that your tea plant will establish to become a bigger plant with more fresh leaves in the following years. Prune back to 3 to 4 feet every few years to keep the plant bushy and producing fresh leaves. Traditionally, the uppermost leaves two and leaf bud on each stem are picked although you may want to try with some of the older leaves or even stems and see how the flavour varies. Protect plants from cold, dry winds and early morning sun and water in dry weather to prevent bud drop. Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser in mid-spring and again in June, plus mulch annually with shredded bark or well-rotted leaf mould. Protect container-grown tea plants in winter by wrapping with bubble wrap or hessian. For the first 2 or 3 years during the winter, we suggest either bringing your plant indoors or protecting it from prolonged or sharp frosts with horticultural fleece.

Eucalyptus gunnii Azura
  • £14.99

'Azura' is an excellent new selection of the ever-popular Eucalyptus tree and is especially suitable for British gardens. It is a much more compact and bushy form than the typical fast-growing Eucalyptus trees that we are more familiar with, and is also much hardier - reportedly surviving through winter down to -20°C. This new compact form and cold-hardiness make it a great specimen plant for even the most inexperienced of gardeners, and as the name suggests, it has an amazing azure blue-grey leaf coloration all year round. Of course, like all Eucalyptus, 'Azura' also has a uniquely gorgeous fresh fragrance, which makes it an ideal and long-lasting plant for cut foliage for bouquets and arrangements. Growing best in full sun or light shade, this Eucalyptus works well in larger pots, when trimmed twice a year, or when grown as a specimen in lawns and borders. You can even form a hedge with it, as in all these situations you get good all-round leaf colour. Supplied as an established plant in a 13cm pot, ready for immediate planting.
